Job Title: Mechanical Surveyor
Location: Portsmouth (HM Naval Base)

What You’ll be doing:
The Mechanical Surveyor role is an integral part of the multi-disciplined team of surveyors as part of the wider Asset Management space, within the Surveys Dept. You’ll be working within a team of Mechanical, Building and M&E surveyors providing thorough analysis of mechanical defects and compiling detailed reports/scopes of work of desired solutions and cost estimates of proposed works.
Bu undertaking surveys of mechanical and saltwater systems to asset Level 4 in accordance with Asset Physical Condition Grading Methodology (APCGM training will be provided), you’ll undertake general surveys and provide recommendations with regard to survey requests generated via the Company Help Desk. In addition, the Mechanical Surveyor will assess and provide specific insight into the condition, performance and operational risk of Mechanical systems by undertaking non-intrusive inspections
Additionally, you’ll provide technical advice to the Waterfront Operations, Maintenance and Project teams. With the provision of technical Reports with regard to maritime asset types, e.g. Penstocks, Caissons and mechanical / maritime infrastructure, you’ll provide accurate appraisals of mechanical systems, infrastructure and utilities based on knowledge, experience and professional training.
You’ll Have:
Ideally, you’ll hold a minimum HNC in a mechanical and / or surveying / engineering discipline and have relevant working exposure with managing safety, PUWER, LOLER and Safe systems of work for high-risk operations. Confined Space and Working at Height qualified, although training can be provided. These qualifications are essential to the role so you must be fit and able to ascend ladders and be comfortable working in areas deemed to be confined spaces.
With at least five year’s technical / surveying experience gained working in a Mechanical and / or Marine Engineering environment (desirable), you’ll be able to display a knowledge of and understanding of statutory requirements, current regulations, Health & Safety legislation and approved codes of practice with regard to the above. You’ll also be aware of HAZID (Hazard Identification) and Risk Assessment tools and have strong awareness of environmental management.
About you:
You’ll be PC Literate, working knowledge of Windows applications including MS Word, Excel, Outlook etc. and will preferably hold an appropriate health and safety qualification. You’ll also champion interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with confidence in your own ability with a respectful, tolerant and approachable attitude to colleagues and the Customer alike. Technical simplification – ability to articulate complex data & information detail to internal and external stakeholders at all levels and technical ability. To be able to work as part of a team and independently when required.
