KBS Maritime Team Smash Fundraising Target in Ultra Challenge

Some Blood, All Sweat, and Laughter

On the sunny morning of 3rd August, our Finance and Commercial teams embarked on the 25km South West Coast Ultra Challenge, raising over £1500 for the MS Society.

The challenge was far from a leisurely stroll. It was a grueling 36,000 steps journey that stretched from the quaint village of Porlock, through the rugged Exmoor Hills, to the historic Dunster Castle. The day was filled with blood, sweat, and an abundance of laughter. Despite a few bloodied toes and buckets of sweat, the team finished in good spirits and are already planning next year – but the 50Km challenge.

The team decided to support the MS Society because one of its members has personally benefited from the charity’s work in her journey with Multiple Sclerosis. Kasia Olender, Project Accountant who suffers from MS, highlights how the MS Society has supported her journey: “They have so many useful resources on their portal and provide access to qualified MS nurses who have tips ready to guide me when I get overwhelmed and lost with day-to-day tasks.” Kasia continues, “For me, fatigue can be overwhelming at times, making it difficult to focus or find the energy to complete everyday tasks.”

The team impressively completed the 25km distance in just seven and a half hours. However, two members of the team, Nigel and Jay, found their inner Olympians. Motivated by the thought of a cold pint at the pub and the fear that if they stopped, they may never move again, they pushed on. Their determination paid off as they secured fourth and fifth place overall, completing the walk in a swift 5 hours and 22 minutes.
