Mark Johnston – Inspiring Project Professionals

Introducing Mark Johnston, an Assistant Project Manager. In this interview, Mark discusses the rewarding experience of running his own meetings, the enjoyable team dynamics, and offers advice to new apprentices on committing to their studies, seeking counsel, and making decisions confidently.

Can you share a specific project or task that you found particularly rewarding?

Running my own meetings and review meetings without supervision. It was rewarding because I acted on my own initiative, made decisions with my team, and worked towards creating a specific outcome. It felt like gaining independence, similar to moving out and no longer answering to parents.

What do you enjoy most about the work environment and culture here?

The team is the most enjoyable aspect. The wit and humor shared among us make the environment engaging and fun.

What advice would you give to someone considering joining our apprenticeship program?

  • Commit fully to your studies – Avoid regret by putting in maximum effort so you can finish your qualification knowing you did your best. Look for ways to improve and grow. Study harder than before.
  • Learn to ask for counsel – Even kings sought counsel when they were uncertain. You will be surrounded by experienced teammates, so learn to seek their wisdom to help inform your decisions.
  • Do not be afraid to make decisions – Leaders accept responsibility for all their decisions, both good and bad, not just one or the other.
