At KBS, we’re proud to celebrate the people who make our organisation what it is. We are celebrating the journeys, achievements, and personal milestones of colleagues marking their KBS anniversaries. This month, hear from Jason Lamb, who is celebrating six years at KBS working in the Alongside Services Team.
Having worked at Portsmouth Naval Base previously, Jason joined KBS for the career progression opportunities it offered. Jason started as a Port Operative/Lifting Supervisor but thanks KBS for the continual investment and support that has seen him progress into roles as a Lifting AP, a Managing AP, and finally his current role as ALS Ship Support Lead.
Monotony is a foreign concept to Jason. Working within ALS means no two days are ever the same, with a mix of planned activity and reactive demands shaping his workload. The fast-paced and often high-pressure environment is something he thrives in, enjoying the challenge and the constant need to adapt and prioritise.
In his current position, he operates as the support lead across three key areas: the Restricted Berth, the Crane Section and the Lifting Store. Balancing responsibilities across these functions, he ensures each area receives the focus it needs while driving continuous improvement. The nature of the role requires him to constantly assess priorities, making decisions on where his time and effort will have the greatest impact.
His career progression within KBS highlights both his ambition and the support available within the business. Starting as a Port Operative and Lift Supervisor, he has since moved through several roles including Lifting AP, Managing AP and Restricted Berth Lifting Manager. Each step has built on the last, with the business recognising his drive to succeed and investing in his development along the way.
Outside of work, Jason is sociable and family-oriented. With a one-year-old son, much of his time is now centred around family life. When time allows, he enjoys walking his dog, following Newcastle United, and clay pigeon shooting. He also has a passion for staying active, having completed two marathons as well as multiple Tough Mudder and OCR events. When he gets the chance for some downtime, he enjoys heading to the pub to play darts, where he is very competitive!
Looking ahead, travel is high on his list of ambitions, with Japan currently his top destination. In the future, he would also like to go on a round-the-world cruise and take a hot air balloon ride with his son when he is older.
Growing up, he aspired to follow in his father’s footsteps by joining the Navy. Although that path didn’t materialise, his current role still aligns closely with that ambition. Through his work supporting alongside and deployed operations, he continues to play an important part in enabling Naval activity, contributing to something bigger.
