At KBS, we’re proud to celebrate the people who make our organisation what it is. We are celebrating the journeys, achievements, and personal milestones of colleagues marking their KBS anniversaries.
This month, hear from Kelly Turner, a dedicated Helpdesk Operative, who is celebrating four years at KBS, where she has become a valued member of the team supporting operations across the Naval Base. Known for her adaptability, knowledge, and friendly approach, Kelly plays a key role in ensuring that issues are handled efficiently and customers feel supported every step of the way.
Kelly’s journey to KBS began while she was working on site for another contractor, where she regularly collaborated with KBS engineers. When her role came to an unexpected end due to redundancy, it was those very colleagues who encouraged her to apply for a Helpdesk position. Their recommendation proved to be well placed, as Kelly quickly settled into the team and has gone on to build a strong and impactful career.
One of the aspects Kelly enjoys most about her role is the variety it offers. No two days are the same on the Helpdesk, with calls and emails covering a wide range of issues, from roof leaks and blocked toilets to potholes and electrical faults. External factors, such as weather conditions, can also shape the nature and volume of requests, adding to the dynamic nature of the work.
Kelly particularly values the opportunity to connect with people from across the Naval Base. She also appreciates the occasional chance to step away from the desk and visit different areas on site. These visits provide valuable insight into the defects reported and help strengthen her understanding, enabling her to deliver an even better service.
In addition to her core responsibilities on the Buildings Helpdesk, she now manages the team’s knowledge base—an essential resource that supports new starters in navigating common issues and processes across the Naval Base. Her contribution ensures that information is accessible, accurate, and helpful for the wider team.
Kelly has also invested in her personal development during her time at KBS. She completed Mental Health First Aider training, equipping her with the skills to support colleagues who may need additional help. She describes the training as highly valuable and is proud to contribute to a positive and supportive workplace culture.
While Kelly has remained within the Helpdesk function, her experience spans both the Waterfront and Buildings sides of the service, giving her a well-rounded understanding of operations. This breadth of experience has strengthened her ability to respond to a variety of queries and support colleagues across different areas.
Outside of work, Kelly enjoys spending time with her camera, capturing moments in nature. Whether walking along the shoreline or exploring the countryside, she finds that photography is a great way to switch off and recharge. Her bucket list includes travelling more and capturing it all with her camera.
Interestingly, Kelly once dreamed of becoming a flight attendant, but while her career path may have taken a different direction, her enthusiasm for connecting with people has remained a consistent thread.
As Kelly marks four years with the company, her dedication, growth, and positive influence on those around her highlight the important role she plays within the Helpdesk team and the wider KBS community.
