Paul Murphy – SHE Advisor – Employee Profile

What has been your career path before joining KBS Maritime?

I started my professional career as a wholetime Firefighter in Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service. During this time I served at Southampton, Winchester, and Southsea and I was involved in a vast array of operational activities. Following this rewarding career, I decided on a change and moved into Renewable Energy as a working at height and safety trainer. Soon after moving to BAE Systems (Maritime) as a Safety, Health and Environment Instructor. I now work as a SHE Advisor in KBS Maritime

What are some of the things you do in your role now?

As a SHE Advisor within KBS I am part of a very dynamic and motivated team. As a SHE Advisor it is my role to advise and assist an all matters relating to health and safety. No two days are ever the same, and tasks could include reviewing policy documents or writing new procedures, completing a near miss report, or even advising on suitable PPE. I am also involved in safety training and assist in the implementation of a learning management system.

What do you enjoy most about working at KBS Maritime?

The most rewarding part of my role is going out into the business and meeting all the fantastic people within KBS. I enjoy offering help and guidance to the business knowing that this makes a safer outcome in delivering our services.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

Nothing like what I am doing now! I actually wanted to be an architect; however my school had no placements for this and I ended up working in a camera shop!

What are the top 3 things on your ‘bucket list’?

  • A wildlife photography trip to either Iceland or Japan
  • Renovate a classic car
  • Be healthy with my family
